My journey in using essential oils started in October of 2014. When a friend of mine gave me a glass of water with some peppermint, lemon and lavender essential oils in it. Wow! The fall weather and all the challenges it brings to my nose and eyes finally had relief! I was very impressed with these oils. I had been looking for a natural way to treat my health and my families health needs. But was not satisfied with the studies I found. I didn't like the synthetics in so called some of the organic essential oils I had studied.
At the age of 43, I was overweight and diagnosed with high blood pressure. In late December 2014, at a routine checkup with my doctor diagnosed me with high cholesterol. He began to voice concerns about diabetes. As we talked about the changes I would need to make to prevent the scary future that loomed before me, my doctor said something that stuck with me: “Whatever you do, it must be sustainable.”
I was scared.
I was sick.
I was tired.
This was my reality.
The prayer warrior that I am, I asked for guidance. God helped me remember the truths about myself that had been lost in the chaos of a life of always caring for others before myself. Part of my poverty mindset.
At this point, I knew three things:
I had the support of God
I was just going to get sicker if something did not change
My doctor said the change had to be sustainable
With those truths in mind, I began the pursuit of a sustainable change for myself and my family.
I dove into research. I studied the websites for the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Foundation. I learned more about low-glycemic carbohydrates, the importance of fiber in the diet, and the vital importance of consuming more water.
During this period of research, I was reminded of the essential oils my friend had introduced to me in October 2014. I decided to study the company and their testing procedures. The short video shows the process they go through to assure a certified pure therapeutic grade oil. And if that's not enough, they now have Source to you. This is a website they have designed so that you can search the lot number on the bottom of your oil bottle and see the farmers, growers and GCMS report. I love the transparency of this company!
So on December 27th, 2014, it all became real - I was all in and ready to take a different approach to life. I changed my family’s grocery list, I changed the cleaning products we used, and I replaced our old vitamins with holistic alternatives. I changed the way I treated illnesses in our home. I changed everything. This company has made it possible for me to learn how to cut expenses in my home to nearly half of what I used to spend. Learning to make my own cleaners for my home, skin and even the dogs. No more buying a vast amount of household cleaners, over the counter medicines full of the unwanted synthetics I was trying to avoid.
But there is more that I love about this company. doTERRA has a unique way of sourcing their essential oils around the world. They currently have over a 100 essential oils in its product line, doTERRA sources its oils from more than 40 countries with more than half of those considered developing countries. doTERRA introduced an initiative called co-impact sourcing to ensure that small scale farmers and harvesters are treated ethically.
Awesome! I love buying from this company.
